To increase the fuel substitution in Precalciner Kilns AFS provides material handling systems that use Suspension Burners for whole tires. At a rate of 1.5 tons per hour per Suspension Burner most of the tire is burned before it falls to the feed shelf. This reduces sulfur volatilization that limits fuel substitution and production rates. Depending upon the design of the riser and calciner as many as six Suspension Burners can be used per kiln to achieve high substitution rates and an ROI on fuel savings in under 24 months.
